Working in  textiles provides me with an opportunity to explore colour, texture and transparencies in a contemporary context.  In my batik paintings I employ Rozome techniques of han bosen, makiro and bokashi. I work on both cotton and silk, usually preferring silk for my shibori.

In recent years I have been fortunate to work with leaders in the field of contemporary textiles - notably with Rozome master Shoukoh Kobayashi, felt maker Merete Stolz (Denmark) and Yoshiko Wada in shibori.

The techniques I use all retain a degree of memory of the original fibres, with my creative processes adding another layer of memory.I also produce work by felting fibres of wool and alpaca. A light, silvery surface is achieved, underneath which I explore the ghosting effect of recycled fabrics and threads and the sensitive unique qualities of fibres. I enjoy the material aesthetic, and my finished works reveal the hand behind the making.

In 2006 I completed a Masters of Visual Arts. This concluded with an 8 week residency in Prato, a medieval walled city in Tuscany. I was undertaking study at the Monash University Centre, and my work continued to explore palimpsests remaining today, intriguing marks left by man from antiquity and medieval times. Weathered surfaces of stones are remnants, they speak of the past lives and past toil.
